Chief Financial Officer

Fort Worth, TX

One of Vaco’s private equity-backed construction services clients is seeking an accomplished Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. This individual will partner closely with the private equity sponsors and founders to drive financial strategy, operational performance, and long-term value creation.

The ideal candidate will bring deep financial leadership experience within the construction industry
, including expertise in project-based accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, cash flow management, and banking relationships
. This executive will be responsible for building scalable financial infrastructure while supporting continued growth through operational improvements and strategic initiatives.

This is a highly visible leadership role offering the opportunity to influence company strategy and help position the organization for its next phase of growth.

Compensation: $200-265K + bonus + equity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to the CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Lead all aspects of finance, accounting, treasury, tax, budgeting, forecasting, financial planning & analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and execute financial strategies that support growth, profitability, and value creation.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reporting to executive leadership, lenders, and private equity stakeholders.
  • Oversee annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and long‑range financial planning.
  • Drive cash flow optimization, working capital management, and liquidity planning.
  • Manage relationships with banks, lenders, auditors, insurance providers, and external advisors.
  • Ensure strong internal controls, compliance, and risk management practices.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting and finance organization while developing future leaders.
  • Partner with operations to improve project profitability, margin performance, and operational KPIs.
  • Oversee construction‑specific financial processes including:
    • Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) reporting
    • Percentage‑of‑completion accounting
    • Job costing
    • Project forecasting
    • Change order financial analysis
  • Evaluate business performance through meaningful KPIs and executive dashboards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency.
  • Support due diligence and integration efforts related to acquisitions as needed.
  • Assess and help implement financial systems, reporting tools, and ERP enhancements that improve scalability and decision‑making.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including prior experience as a CFO, VP of Finance, or Divisional Finance Executive.
  • Significant experience within the construction industry is required.
  • Demonstrated success in a private equity‑backed environment.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Construction accounting
    • WIP schedules
    • Percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition
    • Job costing
    • Project‑based financial reporting
  • Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and strategic planning.
  • Proven ability to partner with executive leadership and influence operational decision‑making.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, including financial due diligence and post‑acquisition integration.
  • Experience leading ERP implementations, upgrades, or large‑scale financial systems transformations.
  • Previous experience preparing an organization for rapid growth, refinancing, or an eventual transaction.
  • Advanced financial modeling and business intelligence experience.
