This exempt position is responsible for performing timely, thorough client credit reviews and risk assessments to support informed business intake, billing, and collections decisions across the firm. This includes assessing the creditworthiness of potential clients, monitoring existing clients, and coordinating terms of credit. The Credit Analyst will work closely with the Credit Manager, New Business Intake team, billing attorneys, and the Billing and Collections teams to resolve client collections issues and improve the firm's overall credit risk management strategy.

Duties
  • Review client and new matter intake requests for new and existing clients to assess creditworthiness, financial condition, business reputation, payment history, and overall risk profile using available credit, financial, firm, and publicly available information
  • Support the Credit Manager in recommending appropriate credit terms, retainers, billing arrangements, and risk mitigation measures for new and existing clients
  • Conduct research on prospective and existing clients, including corporate structure, industry risk, litigation or bankruptcy indicators, payment trends, and other factors relevant to client business risk
  • Prepare and document retainer recommendations and other credit controls consistent with firm policy, client risk profile, and guidance from the Credit Manager
  • Partner with the Collections team to prepare clear, actionable creditworthiness summaries and identify matters requiring escalation to the Credit Manager or other firm leadership
  • Collaborate with billing attorneys, leadership, and the Credit Manager to resolve client credit concerns, collections issues, payment delays, and related risk matters in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain organized documentation of credit reviews, recommendations, approvals, and follow-up actions to support transparency, consistency, and audit readiness
  • Monitor changes in client financial condition, payment behavior, ownership, or other risk indicators and communicate material concerns to the Credit Manager

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience Previous experience in financial analysis, credit analysis or credit management is highly preferred. Relevant certifications in credit management are a plus. Experience using credit reporting, financial research, and business intelligence tools, including S&P Capital IQ, Experian Business IQ, Dun & Bradstreet, Coface, or comparable platforms is a plus. Experience in a law firm, partnership, or other professional services environment is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience performing credit analysis, financial research, risk assessment, or related finance operations work
  • Ability to interpret financial, credit, and public-record information and translate findings into practical, business-oriented recommendations
  • Self-motivated professional with strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and the ability to work effectively with attorneys, clients, and staff across all organizational levels
  • Strong analytical, research, and critical-thinking abilities, with attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, consistency, and sound judgment
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex credit or risk issues clearly for attorneys, managers, and leadership
  • Advanced MS Excel, Word, and Outlook skills with the ability to learn new software tools. Intapp Intake and 3E are preferred but not required
  • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and good judgment
  • Familiarity with law firm billing, collections, intake, conflicts, or client/matter lifecycle processes is preferred
Education

A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field

Physical Demands

Must be able to move around the office up to 15% of the time to make copies, fax, file, etc. Remains stationary at least 85% of the time. This position operates computers and other office productivity machines (e.g., fax machine, copier, printer, etc.) on a regular basis. Occasionally required to move documents or files weighing up to 15 lbs. This position requires constant communication and exchange of information with the Firm attorneys, clients and staff.

This position must be able to inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 80% of the time.
