How will this role impact First Command?
Reporting to the Director, Risk Management, the Associate Director, Bank Risk Manage r serves as a senior second-line risk leader responsible for overseeing operational and regulatory risk management activities across First Command Bank. This role partners closely with business leaders, control functions, and executive management to identify , assess, monitor, and report risks; evaluate the effectiveness of controls; and provide independent challenge to support sound risk-informed decision-making.
The Associate Director plays a key role in strengthening the Bank's risk management framework through risk assessments, control oversight, issue management, risk analytics, regulatory change monitoring, and emerging risk identification. The position supports the Bank's ability to operate within established risk appetite, maintain regulatory compliance, and enhance resilience while enabling the achievement of strategic and business objectives .
What will the employee do in this role?
- S upport the compliance and operational risk management program for assigned banking activities, providing practical risk guidance that supports and informs business objectives .
- Assess and document risks across banking operations, including deposits, payments, consumer-facing processes, third-party relationships, operational resilience, and technology-enabled activities .
- Assist in e valuat ing emerging risks, recurring issues, and control weaknesses to determine matters requiring escalation to Business leaders and Risk Management leadership.
- Leverage data analytics, risk reporting, and business intelligence to identify emerging risk themes, assess the impact of regulatory developments and industry trends, and provide insights that support risk management, business decision-making, and enterprise risk reporting.
- Assist in continuous improvement efforts related to risk management processes, control enhancement initiatives and control testing .
- Support in evaluating risks surfaced from audit s , examination s , findings and assessing the effectiveness of the proposed remediation activities.
- Provide support for projects, process changes, and system implementations by evaluating assumptions and dependencies and communicating significant risks to business stakeholders and the Director, Risk Management.
- Help p rovide coaching, guidance, and risk management expertise to team members and business partners to promote sound decision-making and consistent risk management practices.

What skills and qualifications do you need?
Education
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field required .
Work Experience
- 10+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, operational risk management, internal audit or related risk functions wit h in a community bank or credit union .
- 3+ years of leadership experience required . Experience building out and coaching a team strongly preferred.
Certifications
One or more of the following certifications are required:
Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Professional Risk Manager (PRM);
Financial Risk Manager (FRM);
Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA);
Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS), or other relevant banking or risk management certifications.

- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization, partnering with business units and control functions to support risk-informed decision-making and achieve organizational objectives .
- Ability to evaluate risks from an enterprise-wide perspective and identify risk interdependencies across business functions.
- Demonstrated ability of a ss essing risk, control evaluation , and cross-functional risk identification activities.
- Strong knowledge of banking regulations and regulatory expectations (e.g., OCC, FDIC, F FIEC ) and operational risk management frameworks.
