Summary
Provides law enforcement and protection to the citizens of Tarrant County, performing duties in the Operations Division. Responsibilities include Judicial, Patrol, Investigations, Warrants and Community Relations‑Training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Patrols assigned county area.
- Maintains awareness of area for crime prevention.
- Responds day or night to major offense locations for on‑scene investigations; records offenses and accidents; interviews complainants, witnesses and defendants; and handles vehicular traffic control & enforcement (tickets/warnings).
- Photographs major/fatality accidents, investigates crime scenes, collects and submits evidence, completes reports, and assumes control of crime scenes by directing duties to patrol and crime scene officers.
- Locates fugitives using background investigations, office equipment computations, informant development, and surveillance.
- Files detailed chronological reports, prepares sworn affidavits for search/arrest warrants, assists with case preparation, and processes evidence.
- Files charges with the District Attorney; handles arraignments, presents fugitives to court, arranges attorney appointments and renditions.
- Prepares necessary documents to transfer sentenced felons to other jurisdictions.
- Manages narcotics detention canines as part of departmental assignments.
- Participates in intra or interstate transportation of prisoners/inmates; escorts inmates from jail to court and back.
- Provides courthouse security and acts as court bailiff.
- Testifies in court.
- Coordinates and implements initial and in‑service training programs for departmental office, develops new courses and updates existing ones.
- Teaches DARE curriculum to public sector students and prepares/gives presentations to faculty, PTAs and civic groups; schedules and coordinates DARE graduation.
- Performs occasional administrative duties such as answering phones and scheduling appointments for supplier/purchasing.
- Assists qualified recipients of various crime programs.
- Maintains physical fitness needed to perform essential duties.
- Uses reasonable force when necessary.
- Works assigned shift.
- Enforces all applied rules and regulations of the position.
- Completes mandatory paperwork and produces required legal documents.
- Attends and completes all training required by statute or TCOLE to maintain certification(s) and licenses.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- Good interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Experience or training in public speaking desirable.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply court orders, State statutes, ordinances, policies, and procedures required for job duties.
- Proficiency in preparing official documents such as interoffice memos, affidavits, investigative reports, and case filing documents.
- Proficient in defensive tactics requiring physical force, including intermediate impact weapons and firearms.
- Working knowledge of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Penal Code, Transportation Code and other State statutes.
- Knowledge of County policies, including TCSD Civil Service Rules, Tarrant County Employee Handbook, TCSO policies, and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Understanding of department organization and functions.
- Basic Microsoft Word skills.
- Control emotions and focus on professional duties in all circumstances.
- Communicate necessary information calmly, clearly, and purposefully.
- Produce accurate, clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents.
- Work with employees and citizens from diverse populations to serve public interest.
- Focus personal efforts and contribute to team performance improvement.

- High school diploma or GED.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Completed Texas Basic Peace Officer course and licensable by TCOLE at the time of hire.
