Position: MEDICAL ASSISTANT - AHS NURSING - Public Health
  • Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides medical and nursing assistance under the direction of physician or nursing staff within their certified capabilities.
  • Assists providers with all aspects of patient care such as taking vital signs, rooming patients, entering history and other documentation in the electronic medical records, educating patients, assisting with office procedures, assisting with patient treatment plans and follow up, answering the phone, and assisting with the daily operations of the clinic.
  • Communicates and coordinates information in a knowledgeable and courteous manner with staff, patients, and families.
  • Maintains confidentiality with patients, staff, and guests.

Grant funded.

Position is located in Arlington Work schedule is Tuesday thru Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Rotates between various Clinical Services' specialty medical clinics as assigned.
  • Rotates and flexes from front desk and patient care coordination as assigned.
  • Documents all patient‑related communications and interventions in patient electronic health records.
  • Collects data and processes messages from patients and front office to physicians and associate provider.
  • Takes telephone and e‑mail messages as well as medication refill requests from patients and provides feedback and answers to patient, physicians, and pharmacy per physician protocol.
  • Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patient, measures vital signs (including weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature), and documents in patient charts.
  • Assists the physician and other clinical staff with procedures and treatments.
  • May assist the physician with medical scribing.
  • May observe patient response to medications administered and report adverse events to provider.
  • Where applicable, performs phlebotomy and other specimen collection in accordance with Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards including control testing.
  • Coordinates patient testing and referrals as well as consultations when necessary.
  • Maintains all logs and required checks for refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, equipment sterilization, etc.
  • Prepares, restocks, and disinfects examination rooms, procedure rooms, lab area, and all other patient care areas at scheduled intervals, and as needed.
  • Adheres to infection control policies and protocols, Standing Delegated Orders and storage procedures for medication administration, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times according to policy and procedures and HIPAA requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor, manager, or practice administrator.
  • Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health department as assigned or required.
  • NOTE:

    Three (3) full‑time years of hands‑on clinical experience working with a licensed physician or provider

    must have an Associate's degree or higher +
    One (1) full‑time year of hands‑on clinical experience working with a licensed physician or provider. Bachelor's degree preferred.

    must have successful completion of a nationally‑recognized,
    accredited medical assistant training program
    , including a practicum (externship) of at least 160 hours

    OR TO APPLY

    must have successful completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.

    MA Certification received from a nationally‑recognized and accredited certifying body required upon hire including, but not limited to one of the following: the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), awarding the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA); the American Medical Technologists (AMT), awarding the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA); the National Center for Competency Testing, awarding the National Certified MA (NCMA); the National Health Career Association, awarding the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA);
