Position Summary
The Director of Inpatient Obstetrics reports to the Chair/Senior Physician Executive and is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, coordinating, and implementing clinical quality improvement initiatives, including Maternal Levels of Care.
This role provides leadership and strategic medical direction for Obstetrics within Acclaim and JPS Health Network to advance performance across the system. The Director will champion provider growth and development, support continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure alignment with system goals related to quality, safety, and patient experience.
Leadership and Clinical Responsibilities
- Serve as a physician leader to ensure high clinical standards of care.
- Develop evidence-based patient care policies, procedures, and standards in collaboration with District personnel.
- Support quality management and utilization review initiatives.
- Assist with data collection, regulatory submissions, tracking, and reporting.
- Critically evaluate clinical data and implement findings into patient care decisions.
- Attend leadership conferences and training designated by executive leadership to support quality improvement.
- Facilitate ongoing medical and clinical improvement within the obstetrics service line.
- Monitor guidelines for management of care and ensure compliance with standards established by JPS Health Network and Acclaim Physician Group.
- Partner with operational leadership to support the mission and vision of JPS Health Network.
- Manage clinical operations for the obstetrical practice.
- Develop scope-of-practice guidelines for Advanced Practice Providers in inpatient and ambulatory settings.
- Collaborate with Maternal Fetal Medicine, NICU, and pediatric leaders to optimize newborn care quality and safety.
- Participate in system initiatives for Labor and Delivery protocols and best practices.
- Work with hospital leadership on Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby units to implement quality initiatives and protocols.
- Provide departmental updates on protocol improvements and lessons learned.
- Promote positive patient experiences on Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby units.
- Educate obstetric providers on system-wide practice standards.
- Track key performance indicators and quality metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
- Organize and lead interdepartmental obstetric quality-of-care review meetings.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Participate in annual evaluations of providers.
- Support ongoing provider meetings and training related to District and Acclaim initiatives.
- Counsel providers who do not meet practice, quality, or behavioral standards.
- Collaborate with leadership and practice management on performance improvement plans.
- Supervise Advanced Practice Providers, including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
- Participate in Performance Improvement and Peer Review committees.
- Ensure appropriate supervision of medical students, residents, and other learners rotating through the site.
- Assist with preparation for regulatory audits, including The Joint Commission.
- Track patient complaints and implement improvement plans.
- Maintain high standards of patient-centered care.
- Oversee provider leave requests to minimize disruptions in patient care.
- Provide leadership that supports a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Collaborate with executive leadership to develop strategic plans for operations.
- Participate in professional organizations to support recruitment and professional engagement.
- Provide consultation on operational policies and programs to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Support clinical integration and system-wide process redesign initiatives.
- Serve on institutional committees as requested by executive leadership.
- Assist with quality assessment, performance improvement, utilization review, risk management, and cost-effectiveness initiatives.
