Overview
Description of the Therapist position includes supporting and serving clients and families by providing and coordinating quality therapeutic services, case management, crisis management, transition planning and supportive aftercare services. The Therapist conducts comprehensive assessments and collaborates with the treatment team to develop service plans, safety plans, behavior management plans, counseling (group and individual), and family counseling to stabilize behavior and promote healing.
The role supports a timely transition to permanence and requires sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
- Provide ongoing assessment, service planning, counseling, case management, transition planning and aftercare services for all assigned clients
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services and submit required reports and data according to deadlines
- Follow policies and procedures of ACH and represent the agency professionally
- Coordinate collaboration of referral agencies, family members, and other support systems to meet client needs
- Manage admissions through screening and assessment of referrals, facilitate placement, and complete intake and admission documentation within required time frames
- Provide ongoing counseling and skills training to assigned clients and families
- Facilitate collaborative service plans for assigned clients and document progress with up-to-date records reflecting progress
- Implement group programming addressing social and emotional needs to achieve individual goals
- Provide case management services and coordinate with TDFPS caseworkers, families, community, and support resources
- Develop discharge and aftercare plans and follow-up referrals
- Provide crisis intervention and stabilization for clients in psychological distress
- Provide updates on client progress to Clinical Manager, Program Manager, and other treatment team members; provide on-call clinical services as scheduled
- Coordinate with referral agencies and community partners to maintain positive working relationships
- Represent ACH professionally and positively
- Education:
Master’s degree with coursework in behavioral sciences or education; licensure of LPC, LMFT, or LCSW required, or in pursuit of full licensure as LMSW, LPC Associate or LMFT Associate; certification in TF-CBT, Family Systems, and EMDR preferred - Experience:
Three years of treatment services in foster care, residential treatment, or behavioral health settings; prior experience in a residential treatment environment preferred - Functional: strong people and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with diverse clients, families, agencies, and ACH staff; good judgment and ability to work independently; commitment to ongoing learning through supervision, continuing education, and experience
- Additional requirements:
valid Texas driver’s license and driving record within insurer guidelines; must not have been convicted of a felony or crime against a child; ability to work flexible hours and provide on-call coverage for Youth Emergency Shelter; strong critical thinking and decision-making skills; excellent verbal and written communication; strong organizational and time management skills
Exposure to children with behavior problems, possible physical aggression, illness, and blood. Some travel for program activities or training. Residential programs operate 24/7. Provides emergency crisis intervention and on-call clinical services as needed. Reliable transportation required.
