Department SummaryUNT Health is the academic clinical practice of the University of North Texas Fort Worth campus, where quality care meets quality education. UNT Health primary and multispecialty care offices are located on the UNT Health Fort Worth, Denton and Dallas UNT System campuses, focusing on improving health outcomes to build healthier communities. Care includes mobile health initiatives and extends to hospitals, surgery centers, long-term/continuing care centers, and in-home care.
UNT Health’s interprofessional teams work collaboratively to achieve an optimized treatment plan tailored to the individual patient. Physicians, neurologists, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, nurses and more work together while intentionally integrating healthcare students, residents, and fellows to deliver care to our community.
UNT Health is seeking to hire a Patient Access Specialist to join our team. The Patient Access Specialist will perform clerical duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Scheduling appointments, billing patients, compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence.
High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Duties- Operate office equipment, such as voice mail messaging systems, spreadsheet, or other software applications to prepare reports, financial statements, letters, case histories, or medical records.
- Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff. Schedule and confirm patient appointments, surgeries, or medical consultations.
- Maintain medical records, technical library, or correspondence files. Transmit correspondence or medical records by mail, email, or fax.
- Greet visitors, ascertain the purpose of visit and direct them to appropriate staff. Complete patient appointment check in and check out.
- Compile and scan medical charts, reports, or correspondence, using a computer. Receive and route messages or documents, such as laboratory results, to appropriate staff.
- Assist in training new front desk staff. Audit clinic prep in both Phreesia and Next Gen. Review clinic schedules for accuracy.
- Acts as back up for the Patient Access Lead, completing clinic batches and daily deposits.
- Perform various clerical or administrative functions, such as ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
- Interview patients to complete documents, case histories, or registration. Gather patient insurance information and check eligibility.
- Maintain patient schedule prep and ensure it is completed within the directed timeframe.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet ongoing needs of the department.
