Summary
This position is with the Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic. The Primary Purpose of the Position is to serve as a staff psychologist on an interdisciplinary outpatient mental health team (Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Team—BHIP). The employee conducts outpatient services including evidence‑based psychotherapy, psychological screenings, and evaluations for Veterans.
Qualifications- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen. Non‑citizens may be considered only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Education & Training:
- Doctoral degree in psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association.
- Specialty area consistent with the assignment.
- Alternative routes: (a) a doctoral degree plus completion of a re‑specialization program in an APA or CPA accredited program; (b) a historical doctoral degree awarded 1951‑1978 from a regionally accredited institution with a psychological dissertation and equivalent internship experience.
- Licensed internship training accredited by APA or CPA, or alternative acceptance criteria as described.
- Licensure: Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Non‑licensed applicants may receive a temporary appointment as graduate psychologists under specified conditions.
- Board Certification and Credential Maintenance: Must hold current board certification when required; must maintain licensure and certification throughout employment.
- Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
- English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English; may qualify under Grandfathering provision for current VHA employees.
- Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions: time‑limited individual therapy, couples/family therapy, group therapy, and psychoeducation.
- Utilize evidence‑based, time‑limited cognitive and behavioral therapy approaches.
- Engage in measurement‑based care where clinically appropriate.
- Administer and interpret diverse psychological assessment tools.
- Assess and treat mental disorders, provide adjunctive interventions for medical disorders, and manage crisis situations.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments and safety planning; provide triage services for patients at elevated risk.
- Supervise unlicensed psychologists, practicum students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows; provide education seminars.
- Participate in team performance improvement projects, team meetings, and peer review procedures.
- Respond promptly to patient crises with a focus on safety.
- Maintain professional functioning and communicate with supervisors on administrative and clinical matters.
- Diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders via various modalities, and conduct research.
- Possible assignments in any program area.
- Licensed requirements for supervision of unlicensed psychologists.
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
