Job Description

Job Summary: The MRI Technologist I-IV operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities
  • Performs procedures as ordered and obtains images according to written protocols.
  • Positions patients appropriately using immobilization and protective equipment as directed by the provider.
  • Organizes and accurately performs the individual steps in established procedures in the proper sequence. Reviews, manipulates, and evaluates images to deliver high quality diagnostic images, including required post processing at remote workstations.
  • Screens and interviews each patient using designated MRI Patient Clinical Assessment Form.
  • Administers IV contrast with proper dosage according to department policy. Documents dosage in permanent record.
  • Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacturer guidelines or department protocols; reports equipment problems/failures.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment with necessary supplies to perform studies and procedures in the exam room.
  • Applies and follows radiation safety principles (ALARA) to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make independent decisions while maintaining tact and professionalism.
  • Uses PACS, EMR, and other software related to job responsibilities.
  • Engages in equitable distribution of departmental workloads and works in variable environments and locations.
  • Performs routine assignments using established procedures with conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within the discipline.
  • Develops competence through structured work assignments and guidance from others.
  • Note:

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of JCERT approved school of Radiology Technology or ACR approved training course.
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in MRI, or ARMRIT, or MRI certification eligible; must obtain within 12 months of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by AHA or ARC by first day of employment.
  • Experience levels: MRI Technologist I (0-1.99 years), II (2-4.99 years), III (5-9.99 years), IV (10+ years) within medical imaging.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Texas MRT certification.
  • Associate degree in Radiologic Sciences.
