Job Title and ShiftMultispecialty Sonographer – Full‑Time Evening Shift;
Monday–Friday 1:30 pm–12 am (one variable day off).

The Multispecialty Sonographer performs basic to advanced ultrasound services. These may include abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts. This position examines the patient's clinical history to identify the examination's purpose, frames the clinical questions the examination aims to answer, and expands the examination as needed.
Essential Functions of the Role- Performs various specialty ultrasound procedures using different equipment and techniques, making necessary measurements for accurate and high‑quality interpretation results.
- Identifies and defines abnormalities specific to the procedure, extending the examination scope appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary, correlating other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function, and utilizing appropriate protection measures during procedures.
- May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies to aid in complex procedures and decrease risk factors.
- Prepares patients for procedures, obtains clinical history including physical findings and lab data, tailors imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors, explains the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient, and answers questions.
- Imaging team members must follow policies, procedures, and workflows, including PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, and Bio Med services.
- Records statistics, performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound lab and its equipment, and reports all malfunctions as appropriate.
- Acts as a resource to team members, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies to optimize patient care.
- Works closely with ultrasound team members to ensure quality processes and follow protocols, assisting with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.
- Implements protocols as new technology evolves and ensures implementation and adherence to system standards.
- Assures operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer’s recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required.
- Must be familiar with approved clinical protocols for each type of ultrasound examination to be performed.
- Must meet all qualifications for any two of these specialties:
Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, or small parts. Work at least 25% of the time in the second modality. Pediatric and adult scopes are separate specialties by certification. - Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic methods, instrumentation, and techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant anatomy and physiology for each different specialty.
- Knowledge of proper infection control, including precautionary procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with healthcare providers, including other sonographers, physicians, and nurses.
- Skilled in the utilization of computers and medical equipment.
- Able to serve as trainer by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.
- Able to take call, if required.
- EDUCATION – Graduate of an accredited program.
- EXPERIENCE – 2 years of experience.
- Fetal Echocardiography (FE)/Musculoskeletal Sonography (MSK)/Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)/Reg Dig Card Son-Adult Echo (RDCS-AE)/Ped.
Echocardiography (PE) (RDCS-PE)/Reg Diag Medical Sonographer (RDMS)/Reg Diag Med Sono-Abdomen (AB) (RDMS-AB)/Reg Diag Med Sono-Breast (BR) (RDMS-BR)/Reg Diag Med Sono-OB/GYN (OB) (RDMS-OB)/RDMS-Pediatric Sonography (PS) (RDMS-PS)/Registered Vascular Tech (RVT). - ARDMS in (AB) or (OB) or RVT (ARDMS):
Must have 2 years of related Multispecialty Experience.
- ARDMS – RDMS: AB, , OB/GYN, PS/ARDMS – RDCS: AE, FE, PE/ARDMS – RVT/ARDSM – RMSKS/ARRT – S, VS, BS.
- Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
