Job Summary:

The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for preparing and executingpayroll by processing pay and deductions, issuing checks and maintaining records. This role is responsible for calculatingcorrect paychecks by determining overtime, deductions, and bonusescalculations.

Duties &

Essential Job Functions:
  • Processes biweekly and monthly payroll accurately and timely using best practices.
  • Calculates correct paychecks by determining overtime,deductions, and bonuses calculations.
  • Processes, verifies and validates hours from time and attendance system.
  • Processes garnishments and child support orders.
  • Verifies hours for accuracy of wages and tax deductions.
  • Responds to payroll inquiries from employees and managers and resolve issues with a high level of customer service and integrity.
  • Pays employees by running processes, printing paychecks andsending electronic transfers to bank accounts.
  • Identifies and resolves issues by examining output, researchingpolicies and procedures, answering questions.
  • Updates payroll records by entering or reviewing changes inhours worked, exemptions, deductions and garnishments.
  • Analyzes, documents and resolves problems related to the payroll system (People Soft 9.1). Performs regular testing ofbundles and patches from People Soft. Plans, tests, analyzes and implements new system functionality to meet evolving business needs.
  • Collaborates with team members as necessary to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries or earnings, taxes,deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages, complying withstate and federal regulations and international treaties.
  • Determines payroll liabilities by validating the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, andemployer’s social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
  • Complies with payroll guidelines by following state, federal and university policies and procedures.
  • Works closely with the Payroll Manager to develop strategies to increase productivity and accuracy.
  • Assists in the development of strategies and implementation ofchecks and balances to assure accuracy of each payroll.

    Education & Experience:
    • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
    • 2 years of related payroll experience.
    Preferred

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree

    • Knowledge of basic accounting processes.
    • Knowledge of basic research techniques.

    • Knowledge of international treaties and Glacier software.
    • Skill in some or all components of Microsoft Office.
    • Skill in keyboarding basic.
    • Skill in Microsoft Windows navigations.
    • Skill in effective written and verbal communication.
    • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Ability to communicate and assist international employees.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects, establish and meet deadlines, and to work effectively within a cross-functional team.
    • Ability to learn independently and develop proficiency with new technology and applications.
    • Ability to approach decision-making and problem solving creatively.
