Systems Engineer, Operations Manager
Position Overview
The SUAS Program Manager leads Kiewit projects and districts through the full lifecycle of SUAS program adoption and compliance—from early planning and strategy through scalable, repeatable deployment across operations. With deep expertise in unmanned aircraft systems, field integration, and program management, this individual ensures each project establishes a strong operational foundation that can expand as needs evolve.
This role is critical in driving safe SUAS deployment across Kiewit, while building alignment between field teams, districts, and corporate stakeholders.
District OverviewKiewit Equipment Services (KES) helps to ensure the profitability of Kiewit projects through the improved equipment utilization and mechanical reliability by delivering world-class equipment and service.
LocationFort Worth, Texas
ResponsibilitiesServe as the primary point of contact for SUAS program adoption across projects and districts—from estimates through deployment, scaling, and asset management.
Partner with district leadership, project teams, survey, equipment/technology groups to develop:
SUAS program deployment strategies
Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Scalable, repeatable workflows aligned to field operations
Provide technical and operational guidance on:
SUAS program setup and implementation
FAA compliance and internal safety requirements
Integration with project workflows (survey, inspections, progress tracking, safety monitoring, etc.)
Establish and maintain strong relationships with project and district stakeholders to:
Drive adoption and program buy-in
Support troubleshooting and issue resolution
Identify opportunities for program expansion and new use cases
Capture and communicate field learnings, operational insights, and performance data to:
Equipment Technology leadership
Safety and compliance teams
External partners and vendors (as applicable)
Develop and maintain standardized program documentation , including:
Deployment playbooks
Training materials
Governance models
Scalability frameworks for enterprise-wide SUAS adoption
- Experience in a customer-facing or field-facing program management role , preferably supporting large-scale, complex operational environments (construction, infrastructure, or industrial sectors preferred).
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage:
- Project teams and field personnel
- District leadership
- Senior executives
- Proven experience deploying and scaling new technology solutions across multiple projects or business units.
- Experience building and implementing operational systems, processes, and controls , including:
- Hardware and software integration
- Field deployment workflows
- Program governance and oversight
- Familiarity with Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS/SUAS) , including:
- FAA regulations (Part 107)
- Flight operations and safety requirements
- Data capture and processing workflows
- Experience in program management disciplines , including:
- Technology assessments
- Systems design and implementation
- Deployment planning and execution
- Budgeting and resource planning
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to:
- Evaluate performance data
- Identify operational gaps
- Develop practical, field-ready solutions
- Will manage a diverse workload; must be able to handle stress and immediate deadlines
- Must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management
- Possible travel throughout the U.S. and internationally
- Occasionally lift and move objects up to 30 pounds
- Must be able to work regularly scheduled hours and occasional irregular hours
- Regular, reliable attendance
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
