The Criminal Associate Judge assists with the daily functions of the Criminal Courts, performing judicial duties such as hearing and evaluating evidence, analyzing laws and rules, making findings of fact and conclusions of law, determining bail matters, and issuing oral or written decisions and orders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform statutory duties authorized by Chapter 54A, Subchapter A, of the Texas Government Code.
- Operate under the jurisdiction and direction of the elected criminal court judges.
- All actions are subject to modification, correction, rejection, reversal, or recommission by the referring court.
- Receive administrative supervision and evaluation from the Chief Magistrate.
- Take any necessary actions to efficiently perform assigned duties or as required by a referral order.
- Attend required meetings and training sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Excellent customer‑service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Advanced analytical skills.
- Broad knowledge of criminal law and proceedings; effective communication with diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to make well‑reasoned decisions timely based on legal knowledge and experience.
- Commitment and self‑starting attitude while deference to court needs.
- Appointment requires approval of at least two‑thirds of elected Criminal Courts judges.
- Graduation from an accredited law school.
- At least ten (10) full‑time years of practicing attorney experience.
- Licensed to practice law in Texas for at least five (5) years.
- Residence in Tarrant County.
- No removal from office by impeachment, Texas Supreme Court, Governor, or judicial tribunal; no resignation during such proceedings.
- Knowledge of Tech Share products.
Required tasks include bending, carrying, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, hearing, keyboard use, kneeling, lifting below waist and overhead, standing, twisting, working alone and with others, and overtime. Requires tolerance of noise and repetitive tasks.
