About the Position
The Augusta University Police Department seeks an experienced and dynamic law enforcement leader to lead one of its four divisions as Division Commander
ResponsibilitiesThe duties of this position include but are not limited to: manage and lead functions of a division within the department; supervise, lead, direct and evaluate staff to the assigned division; develop work schedules for staffing deployment; may formulate budget information and requests, policies and regulations governing activities; formulates division goals related to department and university strategic plan and provides reports regarding outcomes;
completion of reports as requested by Chief of Police regarding crime trends, threat assessments, forecasting future needs for the university through the collection of criminal intelligence and analysis of criminal conduct; provide that all reports and correspondence are complete and accurate for final approval; plan, direct and participate in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of records and reports;
may manage the development and implementation of Incident Action Plans for special events; research, analyze, and evaluate best and promising practices, new technology, new equipment, and tactics; may plan, coordinate and conduct department training, such as weapons re-qualification; perform other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of standard police practices and techniques
- Effectively and professionally interact with employees, faculty, students, patients, visitors and other law enforcement personnel and represent the University to outside agencies well
- Knowledge, maintenance and skill in the use of firearms
- Extensive knowledge of the civil and criminal codes of the state of Georgia, legal terminology, court procedures, laws of arrest, evidence and criminal procedure
- Working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Office, RMS systems and other computer software/databases
- Possess advanced and proven supervisory/management skills
- Ability to demonstrate and exercise quick independent and sound judgement
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
- Maintain confidentiality
The Augusta University Police Department is a progressive, accredited full-service law enforcement agency with 54 sworn Georgia POST certified police officers. Including civilian staff and security guards, the department consists of approximately 80 team members who serve the Augusta University community, to include the Wellstar MCG Health System and the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. The department embraces the philosophy of community policing as a culture and ascribes to core values of Respect, Integrity, Professionalism and Excellence while providing a high level of customer service oriented police services to its community.
Minimum RequirementsHigh School Graduate/GED or Vocational School Diploma from an accredited State or Federal organization with eight years of sworn law enforcement experience to include a minimum of five years in a supervisory capacity.
Preferred QualificationsTechnical Diploma, two years college course work, Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and eight years sworn law enforcement experience in a university environment. Graduation from FBINA, Northwestern Police Staff and Command or similar desired.
This position is a POST certified position and must obtain certification within one year of employment
Shift/SalaryPay Band 15, minimum $82,800 to maximum $128,300. Typically begins between minimum and midpoint
Shift: Days/M-F
Pay Band: B15
