Job DescriptionJob Summary
Campus Police Officers report to the Patrol Lieutenant and are a key part of the professional presence and service mandated by SWBTS leadership and provided by Campus Police. The Campus Police Officer is responsible for all aspects of policing and safety for the SWBTS campus community.
This is a sworn police officer position that requires an ability to perform the essential functions of a police officer. The Campus Police Officer must become and/or remain a certified law enforcement officer sanctioned through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), in accordance with 37 Tex. Admin. Code 217.1.
Key Responsibilities- Provide policing services as a uniformed patrol officer for the SWBTS campus community, which includes all SWBTS personnel, Faculty/Staff, students, guests and visitors as well as SWBTS property, e.g. buildings, equipment and intellectual property.
- Must be able to maintain TCOLE certification and perform any additional in-service training that may be mandated by the Chief of Campus Police.
- Provide additional police protection services for Chapel, Graduation and any other designated special events that may be held on campus.
- Effectively utilize community-based policing strategies to proactively engage with our campus community, guests and visitors while exemplifying servant-based leadership principles.
- Service building access control systems including lock/unlock protocols and key control.
- Interact professionally and efficiently with outside agencies (federal, state, local) when situations dictate their presence and assistance.
- Provide traffic/parking control and enforcement on SWBTS property.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and specific to area of responsibility.
- Patrols Seminary owned property and detects violations of state laws and local regulations, makes violator contacts, and places violators in custody or issues citations or warnings.
- Patrols Seminary owned property and takes appropriate action to reduce crime, traffic violations, and crashes.
- Conducts traffic stops, prepares complaints for investigation, preserves physical evidence; testifies in court.
- Arrests, processes, and transports offenders.
- Performs disaster rescue operations, responds to critical incidents and major investigations, cares for the injured, controls crowds, and directs traffic.
- Removes debris from roadways; assists stranded motorists.
- Uses effective methods and resources to apprehend criminals, rescue victims, seize illegal contraband and disrupt criminal organizations.
- Administers first aid in emergency situations.
- Participates in safety programs.
- Trains with issued weapons and equipment and maintains all equipment in proper condition.
- Maintains proficiency in use‑of‑force tactics and uses appropriate force to avoid injury to the officer or suspect.
