Operations Supervisor – Transportation (Supply Chain / Logistics)

We are looking for an energetic, team‑oriented leader devoted to customer commitment, excellence, and innovation. The ideal candidate has a proven ability to supervise processes and tasks, motivates and engages teams, drives process improvement, and leads change.

Position Summary: Provide operational leadership to individual contributors and hourly workforce to ensure daily tasks—driver deliveries, trailer loading/unloading, customer service operations—are executed consistently with company goals and cost objectives. Supervise key processes directly, including people, systems, customer needs, equipment, and workforce scheduling. Manage performance of direct reports, make corrective action and disciplinary decisions up to written warning level, and participate in hiring and customer meetings as needed.

Shift: Monday‑Friday, 8:30 PM – 6:00 AM. Flexibility required around peak season, holiday, short‑staffed periods, and business needs.

Salary Range: $56,200 – $74,500 annually; bonus eligible based on performance.

Major Responsibilities

People

  • Ensure supervisors and associates are trained, competent, and understand how their work supports customer objectives.
  • Communicate performance standards that are specific and measurable.
  • Interview hourly associates and recommend hires.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity, and other performance standards; provide coaching and counseling.
  • Motivate and engage associates, focusing on team accomplishments and recognition.

Operations

  • Supervise logistics operations: customer service, freight loading/unloading, dispatch, documentation, and procedure control.
  • Conduct team meetings.
  • Recommend process changes to increase dispatch productivity; assist in new associate training.
  • Provide relief coverage when associates use time‑off or are absent.
  • Maintain knowledge of site operating systems to ensure compliance and resolve exceptions.
  • Complete necessary records and reports accurately and timely.

Finance

  • Ensure compliance with financial policies: tracking MPG, returns, damages, etc.
  • Understand how decisions affect profitability.
  • Minimize overtime and meet or exceed productivity targets by managing work hours.

Safety

  • Align daily operations with the location safety strategy.
  • Provide communication, training, feedback, and direction to ensure safe performance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and company policies.
  • Conduct safety observations.

Growth / Customer Experience

  • Understand and exceed location‑specific customer goals daily.
  • Communicate commitment to supporting customer objectives.
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement.

Fleet / Assets

  • Plan work assignments for effective fleet equipment use.
  • Teach associates safe and efficient equipment operation.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance with vendors and Penske Truck Leasing.
  • Complete other projects and tasks as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with associates and customers.
  • Efficient, independent work style with strong time‑management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; active listening.
  • Problem‑solving, critical thinking, independent decision‑making.
  • Drive process improvement and lead change.
  • Proficient computer skills:
    Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Ownership and responsibility to run the operation with urgency.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required;
    Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Regular, full attendance essential.
  • Willingness to travel, meet mandatory hours, and complete mandatory screening.
Physical Requirements
  • Perform duties such as reading, verbal/written communication, analysis, and following instructions.
  • Stand, walk, sit; use hands to touch, handle, reach; lift up to 25 lbs (12 kg) occasionally.
  • Possess adequate vision: close, distance, peripheral, depth, focus adjustment.
