Directs and manages assigned maintenance and area operations; maintains physical school plants in excellent operating condition so that full educational use may be made at all times; provides physical environments that are functional, safe, and attractive.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Ensures that area facilities are functional, safe, and well maintained.
- Develops and maintains written departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, and operations of all assigned District buildings and equipment; ensures work orders are processed and executed in a timely manner.
- Prepares plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement, for submission to Purchasing department for bids.
- Ensures compliance with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
- Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required including timekeeping records.
- Develops and administers budget based on documented needs; ensures operations are cost effective and that funds are managed wisely.
- Plans and directs inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies.
- Recommends disposal of obsolete equipment and purchases replacement equipment when necessary.
- Initiates purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
- Approves and forwards invoices and purchases orders for area maintenance department to accounting department.
- Participates in development of the district's disaster plan and is prepared to take an active role in responding to emergencies as needed.
- Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff, and makes recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
