Machinist Specialist
Location:
Ft. Worth, TX
1st shift: 7-3:30pm (Mon-Fri)
Job Type: Temp to Hire
Position Summary:
Performs development/prototype and experimental machine work on various types of machine shop equipment. Works on complex assignments requiring original design and preparation of necessary jigs, fixtures, and temporary tooling. Actively contributes to lean initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs. Routinely works independently with minimum guidance in a team environment and provides training to new/less experienced employees. Primary Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Operate multiple machines and adapt tooling using advanced machining knowledge and shop techniques
- Perform complex machining operations and troubleshoot issues; set up and run manual and CNC machines
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, engineering specifications, and work instructions
- Analyze and recommend process improvements; collaborate with engineering to resolve design issues
- Develop and define machining processes with minimal guidance
- Assist with tooling design and improved manufacturing methods
- Inspect finished parts using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, gages, CMM)
- Maintain equipment for accuracy, cleanliness, and reliability
- Perform statistical process control (SPC) activities
- Apply advanced shop math, including trigonometry, and knowledge of metal properties
- Train and mentor junior team members
- Contribute to lean/continuous improvement initiatives
- Support workload coordination based on business needs
- Train and guide less experienced team members
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain high performance standards
- Continuously develop skills and adapt to new assignments
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with company policies
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 7+ years of machining experience
- Experience setting up, programming, and running mills and lathes
- Proficient in CNC operations and support equipment
- Experience with EDGE CAM programming preferred
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Strong experience with complex machine setups
- Knowledge of advanced shop math, including trigonometry
- Proficient with precision measuring tools and inspection equipment
- Experience with lean manufacturing and process improvements
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience mentoring and training team members
- Familiarity with job-related software and systems (PMR, TORS, etc.)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to constantly move about inside the plant to access materials and machinery. The employee is occasionally required to reposition him/herself to operate equipment or move about parts and materials. The employee occasionally lifts materials weighing more than 40 lbs. and moves or transports materials and parts weighing 26-40 lbs.
