Panel Builder / Electrical Assembler – Foresight Automation

The Panel Builder / Electrical Assembler is responsible for assembling electrical control panels, power distribution panels, and custom mechanical equipment according to engineering drawings, schematics, work instructions, and quality standards. This role combines electrical panel wiring with mechanical assembly, enclosure modifications, and standardized production practices to support a fast‑paced, production‑oriented environment.
Panel Builders must deliver accurate, high‑quality work, maintain strict 5S cleanliness, and support Foresight’s mission of predictable throughput, first‑pass quality, and on‑time delivery.
Job Duties:Electrical Panel Assembly
- Build electrical control panels according to schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
- Route, terminate, label, and dress wires cleanly and professionally to Foresight workmanship standards.
- Install components including terminal blocks, contractors, breakers, drives, PLCs, power supplies, relays, indicators, and networking hardware.
- Perform torqueing of terminals and mechanical fasteners to specification.
- Verify all wiring is properly ferruled, labeled, and terminated.
Mechanical Assembly
- Assemble mechanical subcomponents, frames, brackets, DIN rail assemblies, mounting structures, and fabricated parts.
- Install hardware such as cable glands, panel hardware, fasteners, brackets, locking mechanisms, and mounting plates.
- Follow mechanical engineering prints and 3D models when required.
- Perform mechanical fitment, alignment, and functional checks.
Enclosure Modification
- Perform enclosure cutting, drilling, knockout layouts, push button patterns, HMI cutouts, venting, and cable entry modifications.
- Use mechanical tools including drill presses, knockout tools, saws, grinders, and punches.
- Ensure all modifications match drawings, templates, and engineering specifications.
- Build bus bar assemblies, high‑current components, distribution hardware, and power circuits.
- Follow production flow, standard BOMs, templates, and QC checklists for repeatable manufacturing.
Quality, Testing & Documentation
- Perform visual inspections, point‑to‑point checks, continuity checks, and QC checklists.
- Record build issues, missing materials, and improvement suggestions.
- Support corrective actions and engineering feedback loops.
5S, Safety & Shop Standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation at all times.
- Follow 5S standards for sorting, labeling, cleanliness, and tool management.
- Wear appropriate PPE and follow all safety procedures.
- Assist in improving shop processes, tools, and workflows.
Teamwork & Communication
- Collaborate with the Panel Shop Lead, Project Manager, Engineering, and Procurement.
- Report missing parts, BOM errors, or drawing issues immediately.
- Support training of new or junior technicians.
- Participate in daily standup meetings and weekly production reviews.
Required
- 1–3 years’ experience assembling electrical control panels, industrial equipment, or mechanical assemblies
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical fabrication
- Understanding of wiring techniques, terminations, labeling, and cable management
- Detail‑oriented with strong craftsmanship and pride in work
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Strong communication and teamwork
Preferred
- Experience with UL508A panel building
- Experience with VFDs, PLCs, and industrial controls
- Experience assembling custom mechanical equipment
- Experience with enclosure modification tools
- Familiarity with PP/Power Panels or distribution panel boards
