Production Supervisor
The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading a manufacturing team to meet safety, quality, and production targets. This role oversees day-to-day production operations, enforces process controls, coordinates scheduling and tooling, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimize throughput and reduce waste. The Production Supervisor coaches and trains operators, troubleshoots machinery and components, and partners with engineering and maintenance to ensure reliable operation of parts, machines, and tooling.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise production shift to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly production targets while maintaining safety and quality standards.
- Schedule work assignments, coordinate staffing and shift coverage, and manage overtime to meet production demands.
- Coach, mentor, and train operators on standard work, machine operation, tooling changes, part handling, and safety procedures.
- Monitor production processes and product quality; implement corrective actions and process improvements to reduce scrap and rework.
- Troubleshoot machinery, tooling, and production line issues; collaborate with maintenance and engineering for timely repairs and root-cause analysis.
- Apply Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to identify waste, streamline processes, and improve throughput and efficiency.
- Manage inventory of parts, components, and tooling to minimize downtime and ensure material availability for production runs.
- Maintain accurate production records, shift reports, and performance metrics; use ERP/MRP systems for scheduling and production tracking.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and promote a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Drive cross-functional communication with quality, engineering, maintenance, and supply chain teams to resolve issues and implement engineering changes.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field;
Bachelors degree preferred. - 3+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience and at least 5 years in a supervisory or lead role in a production environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes, part handling, components, tooling, and machine operation. Ideally, aluminum extrusion.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing tools and Six Sigma methodology (Green Belt preferred).
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose mechanical and process issues quickly.
- Experience with production scheduling, capacity planning, and ERP/MRP systems.
- Excellent coaching, training, and team development skills with a focus on performance management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and lead change.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and basic manufacturing documentation; familiarity with tooling setup and changeover procedures.
