This position supports manufacturing by ensuring molds and associated tooling are maintained in safe, reliable, and production-ready condition.

The primary focus of this position is preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and corrective repair of production molds. Responsibilities include identifying worn or damaged components, replacing serviceable mold components, performing routine tooling repairs, and coordinating specialized or major tooling repairs with external tool shops or other qualified resources when required.

This position is also responsible for maintaining accurate tooling maintenance records within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), creating and managing work orders, and maintaining appropriate spare parts inventories for production tooling.

This position is focused on the maintenance and reliability of existing production tooling and is not primarily responsible for new mold construction, extensive machining, or major mold modifications.

The primary objective of this role is to improve tooling reliability, minimize unplanned production downtime, and support consistent manufacturing performance through effective preventive and corrective tooling maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on injection molds and production tooling in accordance with established maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Inspect molds for wear, damage, contamination, corrosion, and other conditions that may impact tooling performance or product quality.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, service, and reassemble injection molds and tooling components as required.
  • Perform troubleshooting and corrective repairs on injection molding tooling, including replacement or repair of worn and damaged components.
  • Service mold components including, but not limited to, ejector systems, slides, lifters, guide pins and bushings, cooling circuits, hydraulic components, pneumatic components, hot runner systems, and other mold mechanisms.
  • Identify recurring tooling failures or abnormal wear conditions and communicate findings to Production, Process, Maintenance, Engineering, and Management as appropriate.
  • Support troubleshooting of production issues when tooling condition or performance is suspected as a contributing factor.
  • Complete assigned preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance work orders in the CMMS system.
  • Create work orders for identified tooling repairs, follow-up maintenance activities, and additional work discovered during inspections or servicing.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs performed, components replaced, observations, and tooling conditions in the CMMS system.
  • Maintain accurate tooling maintenance history and ensure completed work orders are closed in a timely manner.
  • Identify and maintain appropriate spare parts inventories for molds and tooling.
  • Monitor spare parts usage and inventory levels and initiate replenishment requests as required.
  • Assist in establishing minimum and maximum inventory levels for critical tooling spare parts and components.
  • Ensure tooling spare parts are properly identified, organized, stored, and maintained.
  • Maintain mold maintenance areas, tooling work spaces, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and production-ready condition.
  • Follow established procedures for mold handling, storage, preservation, and preparation for production.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities focused on tooling reliability, preventive maintenance effectiveness, and reduction of tooling-related production downtime.
  • Assist in developing and improving preventive maintenance procedures, inspection standards, checklists, and tooling maintenance documentation.
  • Coordinate with external tool shops and service providers when tool repairs or specialized services are required.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable Lockout/Tagout requirements when performing maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform other tooling and maintenance-related duties as assigned.
