We are looking for an experienced CNC Machinist / CNC Setup Machinist to set up and operate CNC lathes and mills for precision-machined components. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with complex machining setups, CNC programming/prove-out, blueprint interpretation, precision inspection, and machining process troubleshooting.
This role requires someone who can work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a collaborative team environment and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate a variety of CNC lathes and mills for precision machining operations.
- Run multiple CNC machines efficiently, including simultaneous operations when required.
- Create, edit, and prove out CNC machining programs using IGF software
. - Perform complex machine setups using standard and custom work holding devices.
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
. - Machine components to close tolerances and required surface-finish specifications.
- Select, modify, and adjust tooling to achieve required machining results.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machining, tooling, and process issues.
- Work closely with Engineering to resolve drawing issues and improve manufacturing processes.
- Inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, gauges, comparators, surface plates, and CMMs
. - Perform SPC and maintain required quality documentation.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on CNC equipment.
- Apply advanced shop mathematics, including trigonometry
, when required. - Support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Train and mentor less-experienced machinists and team members.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience in a high-technology or precision manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to set up and operate at least five different CNC machine types
. - Strong experience with CNC lathes and mills
. - Experience creating, editing, and proving out CNC programs.
- Experience with IGF software is highly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and engineering drawings
. - Strong knowledge of precision machining, tooling, and work holding.
- Experience using precision measurement equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, comparators, and CMMs
. - Working knowledge of SPC and statistical process control
. - Strong understanding of shop mathematics and trigonometry.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining and process-related problems independently.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication, teamwork, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or other high-precision manufacturing environments.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement.
- Experience with complex multi-operation machining setups.
- CNC programming and process-development experience.
- Specialized CNC or machine-operation certifications.
