MIG Welder

This role focuses on MIG welding with.
035 hard wire on thin gauge mild steel ranging from 1/8" to 1/2" thick, with special projects up to 1". You will interpret blueprints and welding symbols, set up your own welding equipment, and perform precise, high-quality welds in a busy fabrication and production environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding using.
  035 hard wire on mild steel components from 1/8" to 1/2" thickness, with occasional work on steel up to 1" thick.
• Set up and adjust welding machines independently, including configuring amps and volts from a zeroed starting point.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, layouts, dimensions, and welding procedure specifications (WPS) to complete jobs accurately.
• Identify and apply correct weld symbols from blueprints to ensure proper weld placement and quality.
• Fit up your own parts using fixtures and jigs to prepare assemblies for welding.
• Produce clean, smooth welds free of sharp edges and defects, meeting established quality standards.
• Use tape measures and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions and ensure precise fabrication.
• Follow established welding procedures for MIG, FCAW, and GMAW processes as required by each project.
• Work on a variety of projects supporting industries such as railroad and transportation, military, construction, and oil and gas.
• Collaborate with team members in a high-volume weld and paint shop environment to meet production goals and deadlines.
• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures while operating welding equipment and working in the shop.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in MIG welding, specifically using .035 hard wire on mild steel.
• Ability to set up and adjust welding machines independently, including amps and volts.
• Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to identify and interpret weld symbols.
• Ability to fit up parts using fixtures and prepare assemblies for welding.
• Competence in reading and using a tape measure and working accurately with dimensions.
• Experience with GMAW welding processes and welding symbols.
• Capability to produce clean, smooth welds that meet quality standards.
• Comfort working in a fabrication shop or production welding environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with FCAW welding processes.
• Background in fabrication shop welding in addition to production or structural welding.
• Familiarity with stainless steel welding.
• Knowledge of welding procedures, schematics, layouts, and WPS documentation.
• Exposure to TIG welding processes.
• Ability to work on projects for diverse industries such as railroad, transportation, military, construction, and oil and gas.

Work Environment

The weld and paint shop is a large, active facility with approximately 120 employees, including around 80 welders. The environment includes a paint booth and multiple weld stations, supporting work for railroad and transportation, military, construction, and oil and gas industries. Team members work in a production-oriented setting with established procedures and equipment for MIG, FCAW, and GMAW welding. Shifts currently operate as follows: first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (currently extended from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., subject to change) and second shift from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (currently 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., subject to change).

The shop environment emphasizes safety, quality, and efficiency while supporting a variety of industrial projects.
