Justin Tower 8th floor is a 36‑bed neurosurgical unit located in the newly opened state‑of‑the‑art Justin Tower.
It serves as the primary inpatient unit for three disease‑specific programs at Texas Health Fort Worth (THFW) certified by the Joint Commission (TJC). In addition to our spine surgery program, and the only TJC certified brain tumor program in Texas, THFW recently received the first in the nation TJC certification for neurotrauma.
These programs are supported by a neuroscience nurse practitioner who provides education for patients and their families, as well as education and updates for the staff. Each of these programs also has its own committee, along with an overall neuroscience committee, in which participation is encouraged.
Our primary patient population is post‑operative elective spine surgery, but we also care for pre‑ and non‑operative patients. Justin 8 also functions as a secondary unit for THFW’s TJC certified stroke program, most often caring for hemorrhagic strokes.
We have a 1:4 nurse to patient ratio, with a free charge nurse and multiple patient care technicians (PCTs) on every shift. Our unit‑based council (UBC) meets monthly, both in‑person and online.
