Director of Inpatient Services

Responsible for all PSU, ICU, and Emergency Room departmental functions in support of the hospital mission, vision, and facility goals. Manages all aspects of operations of PSU, ED, ICU, and assists with staffing the unit as needed. Provides input and direction for all departmental evaluations, disciplinary actions, and the hiring of staff. Identifies cost‑effective systems needed to support the business of the department and works with the Director of Clinical Operations in meeting unit/department goals.

Establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers, and vendors, identifying and remedying areas of focus, improvement, and change through continuous customer satisfaction data and employee involvement.

Qualifications Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN required
Licensure/Certification
  • Current Texas RN License
  • BLS required; must obtain ACLS and PALS within 5 months of hire date
Specific Job Experience
  • Minimum two years’ experience in Medical/Surgical or ICU nursing
  • Minimum two years’ experience in management or supervisory position
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to make independent sound clinical nursing and supportive management decisions
  • Capable of effective listening, conflict resolution, and strong communication
  • Demonstrates communication skills appropriate to age
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and plans for special age‑specific needs of surgical patients and their families
  • Ability to utilize Electronic Health Care Record for patient documentation
  • Critical Care background preferred
Skills
  • Manages all aspects of operations of PSU, ED, ICU
  • Participates on facility Quality Council
  • Assists with staffing the unit as needed
  • Assigns tasks based on age‑specific competency of staff
  • Accountable for safety issues regarding patients
  • Liaison between staff and department Director as needed
  • Performs all required training, competencies, and meets timely deadlines for self and staff
