Responsibilities

You will be the direct supervisor for the ICU department and:

  • Organize safe and effective care of the patient, collaborating with the Director, physicians, technicians, and allied health practitioners.
  • Assist with the supervision, coordination and evaluation of nursing care provided on the assigned unit.
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities for the unit, which support the safe and efficient delivery of care.
  • Implement performance improvement activities, hospital policies, procedures and assist with the financial management of the unit.
  • Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
  • Notify responsible practitioners of significant changes in patient condition, facilitate management of follow‑up care.
  • Assess readiness for treatment and care.
  • Utilize data collected in the assessment, and in collaboration with other health care providers, formulate a plan of care, and update as needed to achieve the optimal patient outcome.
  • Supervise care provided by RNs, technicians, and students.
  • Supervise staff for quality of care provided by direct reports.
  • Act as a patient advocate; facilitate appropriate communication of and resolution for patient concerns.
  • Prepare, compile, and maintain required statistical reports.
  • Participate in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities.
  • Participate in the interviewing and hiring of new staff.
  • Schedule staff.
  • Serve as clinical resource for the nursing unit.
Education
  • BSN required.
Licensing and Certification
  • Licensed RN in the state of Texas; ACLS and BLS required.
  • Specialty Certification is preferred and must be obtained within the first year of employment.
  • Professional Nursing Organization Membership required.
Experience
  • Preferred 3 years minimum of clinical and/or supervisory experience in ICU.
