What You'll Do:
Assistant Dean of Nursing (ADON) reporting to the Dean of Nursing is responsible for clinical oversight, faculty support, and core nursing student support at the campus. The role collaborates with campus leadership to ensure alignment with the college’s vision and values.
- Oversee clinical instruction
- Foster and maintain academic‑practice partnerships with clinical partners to provide students with access to expertise and practical application.
- Conduct site evaluations and incorporate feedback from the core nursing team and site contacts to evaluate the appropriateness of clinical facilities and curricular experiences.
- Partner with the Nursing Lab Manager to plan skills and lab experiences that fully utilize equipment and prepare students for practice.
- Manage Clinical Coordinator(s) to achieve expected outcomes.
- Faculty support
- Lead workshops to develop faculty teaching skills.
- Informally and formally review and evaluate delivery of core nursing curriculum, ensuring adherence to established performance standards and regulations, and provide constructive, research‑based feedback.
- Develop relationships with new faculty, providing resources and guidance for their success.
- Student support delivery for core nursing students
- Address student concerns, complaints, and disciplinary issues in accordance with college policies and procedures.
- Foster an environment of academic excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Promote student success by advising students, facilitating communication, and maintaining satisfactory relationships between students and faculty members.
- Sponsor student associations.
- Maintain regulatory compliance
- Ensure compliant delivery of clinical curriculum (e.g., CCNE, AACN, ABHES, BON requirements).
- Maintain compliant records, including faculty files and student records.
- Serve as Program Administrator as needed.
- Scholarship responsibilities
- The scholarship of teaching:
Lead delivery of assigned curriculum, set strategic goals, use data to drive improvement, deliver instruction, and engage with all students. - The scholarship of practice:
Build and evaluate a team of qualified faculty, oversee faculty selection, and continuously improve effectiveness. - The scholarship of discovery:
Provide ongoing support and professional development to faculty, enhancing skills and promoting student success.
- The scholarship of teaching:
The following qualifications are required or desired for this position.
Must have:
- Master’s of Science in Nursing degree from an institution accredited by the U.S. Secretary of Education or CHEA.
- Three or more years of experience as a professional registered nurse providing direct patient care.
- Three or more years of experience teaching full‑time in a registered nursing program at a college or university.
- Current, unencumbered state professional registered nurse license in the state where students are located or an appropriate consortium state.
Nice to have:
- Earned doctorate (EdD, Ph.D., or DNP) from an accredited institution.
- Evidence of progressive leadership experience, including supervisory experience and prior instruction, curriculum, academic programs, and development of academic initiatives.
- Certified Nurse Educator certification and national certification in nursing specialty.
- Competitive pay range: $100,000-$130,000.
