HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTEThe Infection Control Coordinator coordinates, implements and evaluates the organization's infection prevention and control program/ Nurse Educator. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Essential FunctionsCoordinates the development and evaluation of the organization's infection prevention and control strategies, policies, and planning.
Collects and performs statistical analysis, interpretation and dissemination of healthcare acquired infection data, including risk assessment, surveillance priorities, and outcomes analysis.
Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
Monitors local, state and federal regulations and ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies' standards and requirements.
Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols. Assists with the development of educational resources and initiatives.
Monitors research and developments in the field of infection prevention and control to identify best practices
Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator protects patients, employees and guests from communicable diseases by directing and coordinates infection prevention and control program for the hospital. IC/NE assumes direct responsibility for infection surveillance, infection control reporting, and provision of infection control technical support and education for the facility staff. IC/NE coordinates the preventative and intervention measures as well as the tracking and reporting system associated with this effort.
IC/NE compares laboratory reports with communicable diseases list to identify conditions that require infection control procedures. IC advises and consults with physicians, nurses and hospital personnel concerning precautions to be taken to protect patients, staff, and other persons from possible contamination or infection. IC/NE investigates infection control problems and arranges for follow-up care for persons exposed to infection or disease.
IC/NE instructs hospital personnel in universal and specific infection control procedures. IC/NE ensures that the facility meets infection prevention and control standards of all regulatory bodies by following the current guidelines issued by the CDC. Assists the DON in directing all nursing activities within the hospital and in assessing and monitoring the quality of nursing services provided. Assists the DON in interviewing of staff.
Conducts new employee training and orientation. Participates in departmental and team meetings. The IC/NE is also a working RN and routinely and personally executes nursing care duties to ensure quality patient care and proper execution and documentation of the treatment plan.

- Associate's degree Nursing (ADN) Required, Bachelor's Degree Nursing (BSN) Preferred
- Previous experience as an infection control practitioner preferred.
- Licenses:
Current unencumbered license to practice by the State Board of Nursing
