About Us

Maverick Golf and Ranch Club is seeking an Assistant in Training to join the Golf Course Maintenance Department. Located in Fort Worth, TX, Maverick is the newest property in the Discovery Land Company portfolio. The facility is set to open fall of 2026, and will be comprised of a Fazio designed 18 hole championship course, a 9 hole par 3 course, and state of the art practice facility and short game area.

Following the completion of the aforementioned, an additional 12 holes will be built during the final phase of the project. The turf selections are robust in nature, and aim to offer a wide variety of playing surfaces. On the championship course, the USGA greens will be equipped with hydronics and subair and seeded with 007XL bentgrass. The tees and fairways will be comprised of stadium zoysia, while the roughs will be zeon zoysia.

On the par 3 course, tiff eagle will be utilized on the putting surfaces. The tees, fairways, and rough will be sodded with tiff tuff bermuda that is overseeded in the fall.

Position Overview

The AIT position will report to the Director of Agronomy/Assistant Superintendents and will serve a crucial role in the successful grow‑in and grand opening of Maverick Golf and Ranch Club. This role is unique in nature, as it will require the individual to assist with golf course construction, grow‑in, and maintenance of Discovery Land Company’s newest premier property. As an AIT, you will have the opportunity to be involved in all agronomic practices, high‑level planning discussions, construction projects, and staff coordination/management.

We aim to prepare aspiring turf professionals for the next level through field training and in‑depth conversations regarding agronomic fundamentals.

Maverick is owned by Discovery Land Company, which includes a network of 36 private golf clubs. This provides ample opportunity for future career development and experience in different climates/turf types should the individual desire. Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in performing and managing all aspects of golf course maintenance, including mowing, fertilization, pest control, irrigation, and cultural practices.
  • Create an environment of professionalism, respect, timeliness, and accountability among the maintenance team.
  • Oversees and executes any and all operations necessary for golf course grow‑in.
  • Calibrates fertilizer spreaders and sprayers, ensuring accurate output of all products.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized jobsite.
  • Assists and oversees pre‑plant fertilizer applications to all turfgrass areas.
  • Assists and oversees putting green seeding/sprigging and establishment.
  • Oversees grassing of all other playing surfaces.
  • Aids in keeping accurate schedules and records of all maintenance completed on course, including detailed records of all pesticide applications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or certificate in turfgrass management, or desire to obtain.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in golf course maintenance.
  • Ability to perform most daily maintenance tasks and cultural practices.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to golf course grow‑in demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize work in an extremely fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
