Seeking an experienced Manager to lead the Materials Characterization team. This role oversees the development, automation, and continuous improvement of analytical methods that support advanced manufacturing of high-performance rare earth permanent magnets. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with materials characterization techniques such as microscopy, metallography, XRD/XRF, magnetometry, thermal analysis, and chemical testing, along with proven leadership experience in a research or laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a team of chemists and engineers focused on materials characterization and analytical method development.
  • Oversee analytical techniques including SEM, optical microscopy, XRD, XRF, DSC/TGA, magnetometry, ICP‑OES, LECO, and related methods.
  • Support R&D and process development teams with advanced characterization and troubleshooting.
  • Develop automated systems for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Generate technical reports, standard work instructions, and maintain knowledge databases.
  • Conduct measurement system analysis (Gage R&R) and ensure test method reliability.
Qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a materials characterization or metallurgy laboratory.
  • Experience managing technical teams, projects, and analytical method development.
  • Strong understanding of structure-property relationships and materials characterization techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with rare earth materials, permanent magnets, or metal powders.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in an R&D or analytical lab environment.
  • Programming, automation, or data analysis experience.
