Research Scientist

Research scientists typically work in a laboratory environment, conducting research and experiments for academic, industrial or commercial ends. They may help develop new products for their company, for example, or help contribute to scientific understanding within their field.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Leading the formulation, development, and optimization of new programs, designs, and prototypes.
• Participating in research formulating and writing with other staff.
• Assessing new technologies and future applications of technologies.
• Proposing, planning, and managing research projects, report preparation, and presentation of findings.
• Applying for grants to continue their research.
• Mentoring, training, and/or coaching junior research scientists.
• Staying up to date on developments within their field through methods such as reading academic journals, attending training programs, and attending conferences within their field.
