Position Purpose The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing all aspects of deli department operations, including customer service, food safety, sales, merchandising, inventory management, and team development. This position helps ensure the department delivers high-quality products, maintains compliance with company standards, and provides an exceptional shopping experience for customers. The Assistant Deli Manager serves as a leader in the department and may assume responsibility for deli operations in the Deli Manager’s absence.
Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales- Deliver and promote outstanding customer service by creating a welcoming and engaging shopping experience.
- Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and meal solutions.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Support sales-building initiatives through suggestive selling and product knowledge.
- Ensure department displays are attractive, fully stocked, and customer-ready.
- Assist in coordinating daily deli production and service activities.
- Ensure proper preparation, packaging, rotation, and presentation of deli products.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to support sales while minimizing shrink.
- Maintain department organization, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
- Support execution of company merchandising programs, promotions, and seasonal displays.
- Assist with supervising, coaching, training, and developing deli associates.
- Help establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
- Support employee scheduling and labor management efforts.
- Lead by example through professional conduct and strong customer service practices.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health department, and company standards.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, and proper date rotation procedures.
- Ensure associates follow safe food handling and preparation practices.
- Support department audit readiness and compliance initiatives.
- Identify and address safety concerns promptly to maintain a safe working environment.
- Assist with managing department expenses, labor, and inventory levels.
- Support shrink reduction efforts through proper ordering, handling, and merchandising practices.
- Help achieve department sales, profitability, and productivity goals.
- Monitor product movement and identify opportunities to improve operational performance.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous deli, food service, restaurant, or retail supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and food preparation procedures.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and twisting.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in refrigerated environments and around food preparation equipment.
- Ability to safely operate deli equipment according to company standards.
