Department Summary:

The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and creating solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic "bench-top" science, clinical research, community-based research, and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease.

A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease.

Position Overview

This position supports the current and upcoming ITR studies, projects, and the ITR staff and participants. The role assists with participants during ITR studies as well as research administrative and scheduling duties.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from a four‑year college or university; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical organizational infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge and skills in using a range of software programs including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SPSS, and STATA.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to perform administrative and clerical tasks.
  • Proficiency in general laboratory procedures, techniques, and documentation.
  • Willingness to acquire competence in new techniques.
Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.

Job Duties
  • Schedule each component of participant visits: interview, neuropsychological testing, blood draw, MRI, medical exam, and feedback sessions.
  • Check participants into the electronic check‑in system.
  • Coordinate imaging center appointments (new, canceling, pending).
  • Perform blood draw duties: create blood draw entry, complete Quest lab forms for returning participants, escort participants to Quest, and deliver blood samples to the lab.
  • Interpret English to Spanish for the Nurse Practitioner when needed and perform any other duties as required.
Physical Requirements
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
Environmental Hazards
  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
