Job Description:
In the context of the FERTILITY.SPACE project, the role of the study engineer will be to manage a space-time database and participate in its analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Structure a territorial space-time database
- Design and organize data processing
- Calculate territorial demographic indicators from micro-data
- Participate in geographical and statistical analysis of data
- Write methodological reports
- Participate in the valorization of results with the scientific community (research reports, publications, conferences …)
- Actively participate in project team meetings
- Adapt the representation of geographical information to the publication support
Work Context:
Presentation of the Laboratory:
The IDEES laboratory (CNRS, UMR 6266) is a multidisciplinary and multi-site research laboratory (Rouen, Caen and Le Havre) in Human and Social Sciences. IDEES has about 120 researchers around recognized specialties in France and internationally, particularly in quantitative geography and in socio-territorial recompositions.
Presentation of the Project:
Financed by the Normandy region, the FERTILITY.SPACE project aims to analyze the evolution of the geography of fertility in France since the 1960s. To achieve the set objectives, the project is based on an empirical, quantitative and spatial modeling approach. It will rely on data from different sources (population censuses, civil status) and on methods both classical (cartography, descriptive statistics, exploratory analyses, regressions) and spatial (spatial statistics, spatio-temporal regressions …).
Work Context:
The recruited person will be integrated into a team of 4 people working on the project. Compensation is based on experience (between 2522€ and 2689€ gross monthly). There are 43 days of leave per year. Possibility of telework (to be defined later).
Skills:
- Mastery of thematic cartography and graphic semiology
- Mastery of coding in a data processing tool (RStudio)
- Mastery of Excel
- Mastery of the QGIS tool
- Methods of multivariate statistics (regressions, factorial analyses, CAH …)
- Methods of spatial statistics (global and local spatial autocorrelation, spatial regressions …)
- Knowledge of population geography
- Techniques of written and oral presentation
- English: B1 to B2
- Calculation of demographic indicators, particularly fertility
Desired Personal Traits:
Rigor, autonomy, good organizational skills

- Specialization Human Sciences & Law-Sciences (including demography, anthropology)
