Juvenile Detention Officer
Serve in a support role to Juvenile Detention and Post-Adjudication Institutional staff by escorting detained juveniles from intra and inter-locations in a safe and secure manner. De-escalate and counsel volatile and physically aggressive juveniles; maintain secure custody of detained residents; prevent escapes, assaults and misconduct by residents; conduct search and property inventory of new in-custody referrals; conduct dress in and release procedures;
conduct personal and facility searches; screen and monitor visitation; counsel and assign disciplinary actions; receive and correctly distribute confidential resident information; assist with inter-departmental transportation and document all non-routine events. Conduct various housekeeping duties including resident laundry.
High School diploma or GED. Two (2) years' experience in a related field. One (1) year of experience working with children. Ability to be certified as a Texas Juvenile Detention Officer. Ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR and Non-Violent restraint. Valid driver license and automobile liability insurance. College degree may substitute for experience requirement. Knowledge of State Juvenile Detention Standards;
understanding of adolescent behavior and facility security. If hired, proof of education required at new hire processing.
