Position Purpose

Installs, repairs, or replaces all commercial kitchen appliances throughout the District, such as ice machines, refrigerators, freezers, and washing machines; responsible for commercial kitchen appliances in throughout Child Nutrition Services (CNS) including campus kitchens.

Essential Job Functions Child Nutrition Services – Installation, Maintenance & Repair
  • Services and repairs walk-in and reach-in freezers, refrigerators, ice machines, and other refrigeration equipment.
  • Replaces compressors, condensers, evaporators, fan motors, and other electrical components typically found in commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces dish machines, ovens, steam tables, warming cabinets, and garbage disposals; as well as heating elements, light bulbs, door handles, hinges, water solenoid valves, and any components.
  • Assists in the installation of convection and steamer ovens; replaces elements and electrical components in boiler section and steam chamber.
  • Replaces boiler when necessary.
  • Repairs and replaces steam jacketed kettles and washing machines (including pumps, timers, belts, tubs, and transmissions).
  • Locates and stops gas leaks; replaces burners and pilot assemblies.
Safety
  • Maintains inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of best practices, standard methods, materials, and tools used in the repair of commercial kitchen appliances, equipment, and tools.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes.
  • Skill in estimating and calculating amount of materials needed, and tracking inventory.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, service manuals, wiring diagram schematics, and other written material relating to installation and repairs.
  • Ability to write and prepare work descriptions, notes, instructions, and basic reports.
  • Ability to find and correct defects in electrical commercial kitchen appliances; ability to read electrical wiring diagrams to repair or maintain appliances.
  • Ability to use software for basic computing and communicating.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
