Overview
The Groundman position is your first step to a rewarding career in the construction and maintenance of our nation’s Power Grid. You will assist your team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems.
Key Responsibilities- Support your team by securing safety, assisting fellow line‑workers in meeting project objectives, and joining storm restoration efforts.
- Operate vehicles and equipment in a professional manner and continue training to improve technical and leadership skills.
- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de‑energized overhead work.
- Inspect rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and properly wear PPE.
- String overhead wire, set poles and anchors, and assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switch gear.
- Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Perform basic bucket rescue/escape and understand the basic concepts of equipment set up and grounding.
- Work at heights and/or confined spaces, check voltage on transformers, install and remove a service, and identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
- Understand basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying, as well as the proper use and maintenance of hand tools.
- Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
- Read/write and communicate effectively.
- Travel long distances on short notice, when required.
- Work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
- Lift in excess of 50 lbs. and work outside of the normal schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

The job requires regular standing, walking, use of hands and arms to manipulate tools or equipment, climbing various structures, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Team‑members frequently lift or move up to or in excess of 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentPowerline construction is performed outdoors and can expose team‑members to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, extreme weather conditions, and loud noise levels.
