Maintenance Apprentice

The Maintenance Apprentice assists in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of industrial equipment and facility systems while developing the skills required to become a fully qualified Industrial Maintenance Technician. This role provides hands-on training in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, with a focus on safety, preventive maintenance, and continuous skill development.

Function in the Job

Medium/Heavy work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Job Function
  • Assist experienced technicians with equipment inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Learn to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and work orders.
  • Assist with equipment installations, modifications, and upgrades.
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic/testing equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements.
  • Participate in on-the-job training and development programs to build technical skills.
  • Support production operations by responding to maintenance needs under supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school, vocational training, or related coursework preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with a strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
  • Ability to read and understand basic technical manuals, diagrams, and maintenance instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow direction from senior technicians.
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance documentation and work order systems.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, measuring instruments, and general maintenance safety practices preferred.
  • Basic understanding of industrial equipment such as motors, conveyors, pumps, and bearings is a plus.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance concepts is a plus.
  • Dependable attendance, strong work ethic, and positive attitude.
