Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Installation Technician
Position Summary
The Avionics Lead is responsible for coordinating and managing activities involving electrical harness fabrication, installation of harnesses, components and testing. This experienced-level position supervises multiple staff and reports to the Supervisor of Avionics.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Ensure that every person assigned to a job has the correct work instructions, tools, PPE and applicable references available and is familiar with what is required to complete the task
- Assure proper documentation for work performed by assigned employees, reflecting the status of the job
- Directly oversee the work performed by any individuals who are unfamiliar with the methods, techniques, practices, aids, equipment, and tools used to perform any maintenance, preventive maintenance, or alterations
- Verify qualifications of assigned employees to ensure only properly trained and qualified employees are assigned to each task
- Assure accurate accomplishment of work by assigned employees
- Assure work performed in accordance with all manuals, procedure, and data
- Review work performed by assigned technicians prior to submission to inspection for acceptance
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental compliance
- Conduct beginning of shift meetings to inform team members of any day‑to‑day issues
- Provide an accurate and complete turnover to next shift lead and supervision for proper visit tracking
- Work side by side with mechanics requiring training or mentoring
- Provide development of assigned technicians by providing OJT or mentoring as necessary for new or entry‑level assigned technicians
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Thirty‑six (36) months or more of experience troubleshooting and performing Avionics repairs on Military, Commercial transport aircraft
- Capable of interpreting drawings, wiring diagrams and blueprints to accomplish a specific task
- Must understand and follow AMM, SWPM, and IPC
- Visual Acuity must be a minimum of 20/40 corrected and must be able to distinguish color
- Must be able to access all areas of the aircraft
- Must provide own tools as indicated on company tool list
- Language (read, write, speak, and understand English)
- Minimum visual acuity of 20/40 corrected
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant or FAA Airframe certificate
- FCC License
- Strong understanding of aircraft electrical and installation functions, procedures and standards
- Knowledge of quality control standards and system
- Well organized with strong planning and management skills
- Attention to detail

- Able to organize multiple projects
- Strong problem solving abilities
Able to use all related electrical and installation equipment and applications - Must be able to read, write and speak Standard English for routine business correspondence and for producing work products
- Must be able to adhere to all established safety policies, processes and procedures
This job operates in indoor and outdoor settings. Indoor settings include office and warehouse environments which require the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as safety gear. Outdoor settings include parking lots and airplane runways. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. The job may be subject to varying inside and/or outside temperatures, including extreme heat above 100°F or extreme cold below 32°F.
PhysicalDemands
Climbing ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.; bending downward and forward at the waist; using upper and lower body; standing and walking for long distances; lifting objects up to 50 lbs. Occasionally 25 lbs. frequently and 10 lbs. constantly. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
TravelTravel may occasionally be required for this position (10 % or less).
Work Authorization / Security ClearanceMust be able to legally work in the US without sponsorship. Must be able to pass a post‑offer DOT drug test upon hire.
