Position

Water Systems Technician I with the City of Fort Worth Water Department Plant Operations Division. Responsible for operation and maintenance of the city’s water and wastewater treatment plants and facilities, and performing a variety of technical and manual labor tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Possession of or ability to obtain either a Water or Wastewater Class D license
  • Must pass drug screen, physical
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Water or Wastewater Class C license within 3 years of hire
  • Previous experience working in a water utility
Responsibilities
  • Operate and adjust treatment plant pumps, motors, feeders, and other equipment
  • Participate in routine laboratory analysis to determine plant efficiency
  • Assist mechanical staff with maintenance of facilities and equipment, such as adding oil or grease to components
  • Record information obtained from charts, gauges, meters, and scales
  • Monitor work area to ensure a safe working environment
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Positions may require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, and workspace restrictions. Heavy work may exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or 20 pounds constantly.
