Job Summary

Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on semi‑truck trailers and tractors, including brake adjustments, tire replacements, electrical troubleshooting, structural repairs, and more. Work out of a service truck while adhering to strict safety regulations. Perform general repairs in accordance with DOT, federal and state regulations and company standards. Use technical publications or automated systems to maintain vehicles according to manufacturers’ schedules and research parts.

Properly document all maintenance in maintenance management software.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
  • Perform annual/systematic 90‑day and HM‑183 inspections of tankers.
  • Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
  • Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility and shop as needed.
  • Order and receive parts and supplies.
  • Adhere to all safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards, including handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Clean, organize and maintain the work environment.
  • Use welding equipment.
  • Perform HM‑183 DOT inspections on tankers (P,V,I,K,L,HS,UC) (EPA‑M27).
  • Work overnight shift (10 PM–6 AM) with shift differential.

Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience repairing and servicing trailers, hazmat tankers and medium‑duty trucks.
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, principles and repair related to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in tractor and trailer maintenance including DOT rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency with vehicle diagnostic software.
  • Minimum 2 years as a fleet mechanic.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years DOT HM‑183 certification, training or experience. ASE certification not required but recommended.
  • Full‑time position;
    Monday through Friday hours vary by location.
  • Physical ability to push, pull or lift up to 75 lb; fit into a 20‑inch cargo trailer dome opening; meet fall‑protection harness requirements; use hands to handle or control tools; stand and walk for long periods; bend or twist; see color differences.
  • Overnight shift availability (10 PM–6 AM). Shift differential applies.
