Heavy Equipment Operator

Operate specialized/heavy construction equipment involved in the maintenance and construction of County roads and city projects. Tarrant County employees enjoy superior health, retirement, and insurance benefits.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Operates different types of specialized/heavy equipment
• Performs road maintenance or construction related duties while operating equipment
• Transports equipment and supplies
• Maintains and controls traffic at work site
• Performs routine maintenance on equipment or trucks and reports needed repairs
• May perform general landscape maintenance
• Performs all other related duties as assigned

Minimum requirements include:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of two (2) years of related experience. An additional four (4) years of related experience may substitute for a high school diploma.
• A Class A CDL is required upon hire, and a tanker endorsement is required within thirty (30) days of hire.
• Must have basic knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.
• If hired, you must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing.
• Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudication in the past seven years and may include financial reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.

Physical demands and work environment include:

• While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to stoop, bend, push and pull.
• May have to lift heavy boxes or objects up to 100 pounds.
• May be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
