Full-Stack Software Engineer

VLK is hiring a Full-Stack Software Engineer to join the Practice Technology team. We are building a development-first technology function, and the Full-Stack Software Engineer is central to that effort. This individual designs, builds, and maintains internal applications, integrations, and automations that improve how the firm operates — taking broadly defined problems and delivering working software end to end, frequently as the sole developer on a given initiative.

This is fundamentally a software engineering role, but one defined by versatility: the engineer is expected to pivot across the software delivery lifecycle — development, quality, automation, and deployment — as priorities shift. Equally important is a consultative mindset; the engineer works directly with stakeholders to elicit, clarify, and translate business needs into technical requirements and working solutions. Success depends as much on adaptability, communication, and judgment as on technical skill: priorities change quickly, and the engineer iterates, reprioritizes, and ships without friction.

• Design, develop, test, and deploy full-stack applications and internal tools across the entire stack, including front-end interfaces, back-end services, databases, and cloud deployment.
• Build and maintain integrations and automations that connect the firm’s core platforms, such as project management, document management, financial/ERP, and cloud services.
• Independently own projects from concept through delivery, often as the only engineer assigned to a given initiative.
• Consult directly with stakeholders and end users to elicit, clarify, and document requirements, translating business needs into technical tasks and working software.
• Pivot across the software delivery lifecycle — development, quality engineering, automation, testing, and deployment — applying whichever skill set a given project requires.
• Rapidly prototype, iterate, and ship incremental improvements within a fast-changing environment.
• Adapt to shifting business priorities, reprioritizing or setting work aside as needs change.
• Develop AI-powered and automation features that increase firm-wide productivity.
• Write maintainable, well-documented code and help establish shared engineering standards as the team grows.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Mathematics, or a technical field.
• 1+ years of experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, Git Hub Copilot, or Cursor in a professional or project-based setting.
• 1+ years of experience reviewing code, tests, or technical deliverables for quality, completeness, and alignment to documented requirements.
• 1+ years of experience working in Agile delivery environments, including sprint execution, backlog refinement, and iterative delivery.
• This job operates in a professional office environment and may require travel to various work and client locations.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience translating business or technical requirements into technical tasks, build activities, test cases, or deployment steps.
• Experience working with at least one cloud platform such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience using at least one continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), Dev Sec Ops , or automation toolchain.
• Experience applying at least two software quality practices such as automated testing, code review, static analysis, monitoring, or release validation.
• Experience with prompt engineering, context design, or structured prompting for AI-assisted development.
• Experience with containerization, deployment automation, or platform engineering practices.
