You own the platform powering how Kin gets its products built, configured, and managed — product API, product expansion and revision, and the AI-enablement layer that plugs internal teams into it.

Who we are

Kin makes life simpler, more affordable, and better for homeowners — especially in the places where climate risks, rising costs, and outdated systems make it harder. We start with smarter homeowners insurance and expand to everything homeowners need to thrive.

Our disciplined growth, strong customer satisfaction, and focus on long-term sustainability fosters outstanding growth, attracts marquee investors, and earns recognition and accolades, including:

  • Built In Chicago's Best Places to Work, Midsize Companies )

  • Forbes' America's Best Startup Employers (2026)

  • Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies

  • Forbes’ Fintech 50 )

  • Great Places to Work Certified (May 2024-May 2027)

Most importantly, we’re building Kin to be a place where people do meaningful work with real impact — for our customers, our communities, and each other. The

opportunity

We're looking for a Product Manager to own and evolve Kin's product configuration platform — the infrastructure that powers how Kin's products are built, configured, and managed. This is a platform role in the truest sense: your customers are internal — State Management, Underwriting, Insurance, Compliance, and other technical systems that depend on product data. Today that means insurance products, but Kin's offerings are extending beyond insurance, and the platform is built to grow with that scope.

You'll know you're succeeding when the teams that consume your platform can deliver and maintain products independently, without waiting on you.

Your responsibilities
  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for Product API, the product configuration data model, and product expansion and revision tooling

  • Define how internal teams — State Management, Underwriting, Insurance, Compliance, and others — consume and depend on product data, and build the platform to serve them as customers

  • Drive the Product API strategy and versioning standards so internal and future external consumers get reliable, well-documented interfaces

  • Lead discovery on how the platform should extend as Kin's offerings grow beyond insurance, grounding decisions in how consuming teams actually work today

  • Build and scale the AI-enablement layer on the Product API MCP, using AI for rapid prototyping and other enablement work that lets consuming teams self-serve

  • Partner with engineering and design to take platform capabilities from prototype through production rollout

  • Write specs and requirements precise enough that engineering can build IHOP and PAPI features with confidence and minimal back-and-forth

  • Define and own the metrics that measure how independently consuming teams can deliver and maintain products, and use them to drive the roadmap

Success in this role

In your first 6–12 months at Kin, success is less about checking boxes and more about the impact you create. You’ll use your skills and judgment to take ownership of meaningful work, improve how we operate, and help move Kin’s mission forward. Along the way, you’ll deliver outcomes that make a real difference for both Kinfolk and the homeowners we serve.

By the end of your first year, you should feel confident in your role, trusted as an owner, and proud of the progress you’ve helped make.

  • Internal teams like State Management, Underwriting, Insurance, and Compliance are shipping product changes through self-service tooling with less friction and less dependence on engineering teams
