Position PurposeAssists the director with managing the district's transportation operations. Ensures safe and efficient operation of transportation department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Leadership and Training- Evaluates and supervises the operational functions of the dispatch office and staff to ensure efficacy; oversees team leaders, dispatchers, and lot supervisors.
- Responsible for investigating reported concerns and takes appropriate action to resolve concerns/issues.
- Schedules meetings with Principles, Parents, and Employees, to resolve transportation, school, and/or student‑related issues as necessary.
- Assists in making recommendations that may improve transportation operation efficiency.
- Organizes and facilitates routine staff meetings, related but not limited to, employee concerns and training needs.
- Coordinates transportation for extracurricular activities and special programs.
- Assigns bus drivers to routes and extracurricular trips and finds substitutes if needed.
- Coordinates the function and efficacy for weekend warriors, early‑start up crew, and the disinfection of school buses.
- Coordinates driver improvement training programs (e.g. Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), National Safety Council Defensive Driving).
- Supervises Training Coordinator to ensure effectiveness of training process and promotes improvements to training program as needed.
- Supervises the Transportation Technology Technician and coordinates with them to implement operational processes to maintain our technology equipment in good working order.
- Ensures understanding and implementation of federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
- Prepares, processes, and maintains all documents required to verify safety certification and alcohol and drug testing of bus drivers.
- Compiles, maintains, files, and presents all reports, records, and other documents required, including but not limited to, issues/concerns, training, special trip records, certifications and/or driving record issues.
- Ensures that employee time records are accurately maintained and data necessary to process transportation payroll is delivered in a timely manner.
- Participates in development of the District's disaster plan and takes an active role in responding to emergencies as needed.
- Observes all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
- Ensures proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, and reflector.
- Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff, and makes recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
