Position Description

Coordinates and schedules equipment, materials, and personnel for special transportation jobs and activities. Leads the work of specialized maintenance and technical workers. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Work requires extensive contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

  • Assists in preparing and giving presentations to the public regarding area of responsibility.
  • Assists in scheduling equipment, material and personnel necessary for a project
  • Ensures projects follow established safety guidelines.
  • Ensures vehicles are properly equipped and maintained.
  • Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures.
  • Coordinates assignments and oversees the work of special jobs and contracted crews.
  • Coordinates inventory and distribution of personal protective equipment, monthly safety related inspections, and completes safety incident related reports.
  • Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general education

Work Experience:

5 YEARS in Roadway maintenance, construction, traffic systems management, or related work (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

Certifications:

  • Mandatory:
    Safety Impact Certificate

Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

  • Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or obtain a CDL "A” License within 120 calendar days after 6 months of continuous employment.

Currently Military or Veterans:

Physical Requirements and

Working Conditions:

  • Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
  • Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Lifting-raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position

Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words

This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.

Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

Please note that the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, (e) – does not authorize “medical marijuana” under a state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for an employee in this position.

Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.
