Job Title: Electrical Engineer – Schematics
Location: Foster City, CA
Duration: 12 Months
Job SummaryWe are seeking an Electrical Engineer with strong experience in automotive electrical schematic design to support the development of vehicle electrical and electronic systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining accurate electrical schematics for automotive applications while ensuring compliance with industry standards and OEM requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain electrical schematics for automotive electronic and electrical systems.
- Translate system and vehicle-level requirements into detailed circuit designs.
- Create wiring diagrams, power distribution schematics, and control circuit designs.
- Select and specify automotive-grade components (connectors, fuses, relays, ECUs, sensors, etc.).
- Support PCB design and layout by providing schematic inputs and electrical constraints.
- Ensure designs comply with automotive standards (ISO, SAE, OEM design rules).
- Perform circuit analysis, design reviews, and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
- Support prototype builds, bench testing, and vehicle-level testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, embedded software, validation, and manufacturing.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation such as BOMs, schematics, and design specifications.
- Support DFMEA, PFMEA, and design verification activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in automotive electrical or electronic design.
- Strong experience with schematic capture tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, Zuken E3, Capital, or Mentor Graphics.
- Solid understanding of automotive electrical architectures and power distribution systems.
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Flex Ray – plus).
- Familiarity with automotive standards and compliance (ISO 26262, ISO 16750, EMC/EMI standards).
- Experience creating wiring harness schematics and electrical diagrams.
- Ability to read and interpret vehicle wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with functional safety concepts (ISO 26262).
- Experience with validation, verification, and environmental testing.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
