Hire Art is helping our client find a Sensor Systems Engineer to support the development of next-generation autonomous sensing systems.
In this role, you’ll define and refine system-level requirements for the sensor architecture, translating product needs into clear, actionable engineering specifications. You’ll analyze real-world scenarios, evaluate system trade-offs, and work cross-functionally to shape the design of future autonomous vehicle platforms.
The ideal candidate has a strong systems engineering background, deep experience with sensor-driven systems, and a passion for solving complex problems involving real-world environments.
As a Sensor Systems Engineer, You'll- Analyze bounding and edge-case scenarios to evaluate sensor system performance in real-world conditions.
- Translate scenario insights into clear system requirements, constraints, and specifications.
- Define, decompose, and maintain traceable requirements across the sensor architecture.
- Evaluate and challenge existing system designs to identify necessary functionality versus unnecessary complexity.
- Conduct trade studies to inform architecture decisions and future platform development.
- Collaborate with autonomy, hardware, and software teams to validate assumptions and refine system requirements.
- Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, robotics, physics, or a related field
- 6+ years of experience in systems engineering or a similar role
- Experience with requirements development, system decomposition, and analysis
- Experience working with sensor systems or systems that interact with real-world environments
- Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for analysis and prototyping
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
- Ability to travel, if needed
- Experience with autonomous sensing systems (e.g., cameras, radar, lidar)
- Familiarity with perception and planning systems
- Experience evaluating complex hardware/software trade-offs
- Background in physics or advanced research (PhD is a plus)

Commitment: This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via Hire Art. The role is hybrid, requiring at least three days per week onsite, and is open to candidates local to the Foster City, CA area.
