Senior Engineering Technician

The City of Foster City is looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Engineering Technician in the Public Works Department. The position plays a key role in the oversight and management of work in the Public Right of Way and requires experience in project inspection, construction, and field operations. The ideal candidate will have experience reviewing traffic control plans, and familiarity with underground utility work for water, wastewater, stormwater, communications, gas, and electric systems.

This role is responsible for reviewing and processing transportation and encroachment permit applications, and as such, proficiency with computers and the ability to learn and use various software applications, is highly desirable. The Senior Engineering Technician works on a diverse range of projects that directly impact the community, making strong communication skills essential for successful interactions with the public, utility companies, and contractors.

This position is suited for someone who can take ownership of wide ranging assignments with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate is able to work independently coordinate engineering support functions and collaborate effectively with internal staff and external stakeholders.

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

• Education:
  
  Graduation from high school or the equivalent; college courses in engineering or drafting desirable.
• Experience:
  
  Four years of full-time, paid experience in municipal engineering, including drafting and surveying. Up to two years of college education in engineering or drafting may be substituted for the required full-time experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
